Palompon is where the tourist office is located and from where you can buy your entry passes for Kalanggaman. Palompon is the small town which serves as the jumping off point for Kalanggaman. The closest large island to Kalanggaman is Leyte Island, part of the Eastern Visayas. Option One: Independent Travel from Leyte Planning a trip to Kalanggaman Island Leyteįor travel to Kalanggaman Island, there are essentially two options. I visited the island during low season, and there can’t have been more than 100 people on the Island, but the picture, I’m assured, can look quite different during peak months. Part of the revenue from permits is then reinvested into other ecotourism projects around the islands. The friendly tourist police on the island double as ticket checkers, as well as ensuring the safety of visitors. And that makes it relatively easy for the tourism body to enforce limits. Since 2013 the local government has invested in basic bamboo shelters to provide shade for visitors, a toilet block, and even a pair of tourist policemen who ensure the safety of visitors on the island (or in any case ensure the visitors have got their permits and are not doing any harm to the island!).Įach visitor to the island needs to purchase a permit-for either a day trip or an overnight camping trip. These days, it’s all the local tourist board can do to keep the large cruise ships away. But that all changed in 2013, when a large cruise ship stopped close to the sand bar to allow its passengers to enjoy the island for a few hours. Kalanggaman Island was until relatively recently just another sandbar, or uninhabited micro-island-of which there hundreds in the Philippines. On arrival at Palompon, Leyte, we had a briefing from the local tourism office, who gave us a short history of Kalanggaman. I took a day trip to this postcard perfect sandbar together with several other bloggers as part of my trip around Leyte that was organised by the Philippines tourism board. You’ll just need to bring all of your own food and water (and tent) with you and be sure to get permission from the Eco Tourism office in Palompon, Leyte. There’s no accommodation on this island, meaning it’s open for day trips only-or, for the more intrepid traveller-overnight camping is possible. I can’t wait to see what they have planned for Halloween.Kalanggaman Island looks like a castaway’s paradise. There are also special events around Halloween and Christmas. The catalog and Samir’s shop have plenty of home decor to make your space just as you like. Your starting accommodation is a tent, but once you begin to make bank you can start upgrading and expanding your home. Trees and plants can also be planted to decorate your island. However, I was super happy to discover that although the farming is timed in Castaway Paradise, you can return a day later and your crops will be ready and waiting for you, whether you want to send them to the silo or continue to evolve them. I never have been and I think this is because I don’t like feeling obligated to play 5 hours later to harvest a crop otherwise it will be spoiled by bugs. I have to say it, I am not a fan of farming features in games. Once you unlock Harold’s museum, you can donate items and complete your collections. This can be a bit tricky at first as the bugs seem to zoom across the floor. It took my brain a while to forget the Animal Crossing controls and figure out where my tools where but once I did it was easy enough to remember although I’m still getting my head around the fishing and fish food combo.Ĭreep carefully with your bug net and you can catch a lot of bugs, it depends on which flowers and plants you have in you town. I was stuck on a quest for ages because I’d cleaned up all of trash too soon and had to wait for it to regenerate. If you are a trophy hunter, you are going to have a lot of fun with 40 to unlock.Īs tempting as it is, don’t try to tidy the island up too quickly. It’s fun trying to tick off all of the daily quests and collect that day’s bonus or badge. The tutorial gets you started with the basics and then it’s side quests for days. I found a way to work around this by using the PS4 party chat audio options. I think a K.K slider option on the volume would be great and I only noticed this because I tried to stream some gameplay and although my setup is minimal, the ability to slide the sound down a little would have helped. The only issue for me was the sound options are ON or OFF. I found myself humming along as I was waiting for my corn to harvest and I even fell asleep playing one afternoon I was that relaxed! The music is chilled, chirpy and tropical, which are great for relaxing and gives you a happy feeling inside.
